About The ABEM EMS Certification Exam
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) involves pre-hospital emergency patient care, including initial patient stabilization, treatment, and transport to hospitals in specially equipped ambulances or helicopters.
Exam Stats:
- 8 hours long appointment (6 hours 20 minutes devoted to exam)
- 2 portions: morning and afternoon
- 300 single best answer multiple choice questions
- 15% of test is based on Quality Management and Research
- Test schedules allow adequate time to complete each portion of the examination, but each session has a time limit
- Test administered at computer-based testing center
- Test takes place in October
The score on the exam is not a percent correct; rather, it is a scaled score that ranges from 0 to 195 and does not include field test items.
